Meet the Author

Shannon Battle

Shannon Battle is a devoted mother of five, healthcare professional with over 15 years of experience, and a passionate advocate for representation in medicine. She is currently pursuing her Master of Public Health at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine and is on the path to becoming a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).Becoming a doctor has been Shannon’s dream since childhood. Although life presented twists and turns, she never gave up and she made a promise to her mother that she would finish what she started. Along the way, she discovered something powerful: it’s never too late to chase your purpose.She created Maya’s Journey to Becoming a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine to inspire young readers especially those from underrepresented communities to believe in themselves and dream big. Through Maya’s story, Shannon hopes children everywhere will see that their future has no limits.
